First bone marrow transplant service in Sri Lanka
The project was implemented in 2014 with the first child ever to undergo an allogeneic bone marrow transplant in Sri Lanka, see scientific publication.
An indispensable support so that we could quickly implement this project was given by Dr. Lallindra Gooneratne, hematologist of the University of Colombo, by Dr. Kalinga Nanayakkara, obstetrician-gynecologist and staunch supporter of the Lanka Thalassemia Circle and by the director of the Colombo hospital, Dr. Manjula Karunaratne. Thanks to their commitment and personal contribution it was possible to involve local doctors and nurses.
